As a new teacher, one of the foundational principles that guided me was how profoundly I could impact my students. This is undoubtedly true to this day. What I did not realize then, that years of experience have repeatedly taught me, was how much of an impact my students would have on me. They are constant reminders of the need to continue learning, to continue inspiring, and to continue to be inspired. Each year, through analysis and reflection, my students teach me how important it is to never get comfortable with where I am as an educator. My students inspire me to let my interests, passions, and creativity be the driving force that pushes me to excel and lead by example. When I do find myself content for too long, I notice we both fall short of our potential.

I also believe every student has the right to learn. And they also have the right to demonstrate their knowledge beyond a worksheet, a quiz, or a standardized test. Students have experiences to share, ideas to communicate, knowledge to showcase, and much more to offer than what these traditional educational methods allow.

My Philosophy

One great way to allow students to flourish is through relevant channels of technology. I find myself captivated and occasionally overwhelmed by the amount of technology available today, and I honestly can’t imagine what the future holds over the next decade and beyond. But one thing is certain we need to prepare our students for what is to come.

I desire to be an innovative, relevant educator and leader for my students and colleagues. I want to succeed in learning more about technology’s role in the classroom and its ability to yield a deeper understanding while providing a larger platform. I strive to be a dynamic teacher, equipped with essential technology skills, who leads my students and colleagues to be successful in the 21st century.
