Parenting in the Digital Age

As part of a CommonSenseMedia.org Connecting Families project,

I was honored to present at a parenting seminar hosted by Special Education Network in Asia (SENIA) on Parenting in the Digital Age. How ironic that my technology would fail me, leaving me a bit flustered. Fortunately, I had a kind audience, and we were able to carry on, or at least start the discussion of some very important topics around rearing children and teenagers in a world filled with 24/7 digital technology. Specifically, we discussed the importance of being good role models for our children when it comes to our own digital lives. It wasn't surprising that not many parents had considered or established a Family Media Agreement because it's a relatively new parenting tool. Hopefully, each person left with an inkling to carry on the discussions with their families and will put this useful tool in action. Thank you to those parents who were able to share tips and ideas on what's working in their homes. Please feel free to continue the discussion below. What is your experience with device/media agreements or contracts at home? What tips or advice can you share?
